How does one figure out the height of a tall object without actually measuring it? The grade 7 students in Mr. Allinger’s class learned they could measure the height of a smaller object and compare it to the length of its shadow to come up with a ratio. Using that same ratio, they could multiply it to the length of any object to figure out the height of any object, including a tall tree. This was a good hands-on exercise before going into the trigonometry unit in mathematics.
